Here participants must cross over a maze of wooden blocks arranged in a matrix with 4 quadrants. The group is divided into 4 teams and they are each given a specific route covering 3 of the 4 quadrants.
There are rules that govern how the teams may use the blocks and under what circumstances the blocks may be taken away.
By defining success of the Matrix game as only when all the team members reach their final exits out of the matrix, the game connects directly with the team members demonstrating the behaviours associated with collaboration.
The activity design establishes upfront the need to acknowledge and respect interdependence as the 4 teams try to reach their exits to complete the matrix, together.
As the team members move from block to block they start realising that prioritising one’s own objective without realising the impact on the common goal, creates mistrust and pushes teams to work in silos. Teams realise the impact of one’s actions on the team’s goal and how taking personal responsibility for the overall common purpose, is the key to successful collaboration.
The Human Matrix Kit comprising of a 2x2 prefabricated square ribbon grid and 20 wooden blocks alongwith other set up requirements.
Instruction manual on how to run the activity and the watch-out areas of the activity.
A comprehensive Facilitator guide to help you conduct the sessions and draw the learnings from the observed behaviors to the competency of collaboration.
Tools that will help you complete the learning cycle by making the participants contextulise collaboration to their own job roles and create commitments to change that can be shared and monitored.
